Depression Therapy

Is Depression Making You Suffer?

Do you struggle with low self-esteem, a sense of failure, or the fear that you’ve let everyone down?

Is it regularly difficult for you to feel energized or motivated to face the day?

Are you discouraged by the idea that you’ll never get better?

Depression can be debilitating. When we lack a sense of motivation or purpose, it can make the daily grind of life feel monotonous, worthless, and unbearable at times. Routine tasks, such as getting out of bed and getting dressed, are often challenging when symptoms of depression are present—let alone bigger, more demanding tasks like taking care of others or maintaining optimal performance at work. In these moments, it’s difficult to capture a sense of joy and fulfillment.

What Is Your Experience?

If you struggle with depression, it’s possible you live with a harsh inner critic that regularly tells you that you’re failing. Things that used to be easy or are easy for others have somehow become impossible for you, making you feel even worse. As a result, you may be withdrawing from the activities and relationships that once offered you a sense of empowerment and belonging.

Over time, as you’ve become more isolated, chances are your sense of self-worth has deteriorated. Alongside low motivation is a lingering fatigue, though you struggle to maintain a restful sleep routine. And perhaps your appetite has been impacted too. You may have developed the belief that you are a burden or even that it would be better if you weren’t around anymore. But if you are considering self-harm, it’s crucial to seek treatment for your depression.

We’re here to tell you that you are not alone, and hopelessness is not your only option. Therapy can provide you with a meaningful opportunity to feel supported and understood by a professional who will individualize the counseling process to your unique depression symptoms. Working together, we can get you to a place where life feels more joyful, manageable, and purpose driven.

Many People Suffer In Silence, Not Knowing That Effective Mental Health Support Is Out There

Our lives as humans are packed with stressors. All of us have to grapple with experiences that involve loss, disappointment, and intense emotions. On top of that, we are bombarded with the comparison culture of social media, which makes us constantly question and compare ourselves to others. There is immense pressure on all of us to “put on a happy face,” even when we’re suffering on the inside.

The more we internalize disappointment or despair, the more our minds buy into distorted thinking patterns. When we don’t share these feelings with others, intrusive symptoms and self-beliefs are likely to increase in severity, leading to self-destructive thoughts and unhealthy behaviors that we convince ourselves to be reasonable.

At Mindful Lotus Therapy, our therapists are investing in helping our clients struggling with depression cultivate a life worth living. Using body-based, solution-focused approaches, we can help identify core issues while also facilitating a coping toolkit that will help you feel better.

Mindful Lotus Therapy Specializes In Treatment For Depression

Our job as therapists is to acknowledge and honor your expertise on your own life. You lead this process as we guide you in re-establishing a sense of hope and truth in your life. Whether your depression stems from a life stressor, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), or a chemical imbalance, we will work to create a treatment plan that works for you. If you decide that medication is necessary, we will refer out to a prescriber.

Our Approach

Though we draw from a range of counseling modalities and individualize the treatment process to each client, we find that there are a few specific approaches that are particularly beneficial for treating depression. As we explore what is possible through therapy, our therapists can promote a sense of hope as we reduce feelings of isolation in your life.

An essential philosophy in therapy for depression is to look at life’s stressors nonjudgmentally. Difficult situations are neither good nor bad—they just are. If you are able to look at your suffering straight on and figure out what you need to feel relief, you will develop a new, healthier, and more realistic self-perception.

Additionally, mindfulness is one of the tools we will use in depression treatment to help you tune in and become aware of how you’re feeling. From there, we will incorporate elements of solution-focused counseling, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to change distorted thinking patterns and increase your window of tolerance. We may also include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in therapy to heal trauma that may be at the core of depression symptoms.

Life is challenging sometimes, but these painful emotions are temporary. There is always hope and always a way to rise above any adversity. With the support of a therapist, your depression can ease and may end altogether, resulting in an enhanced quality of life that makes it worth living.
